Pork Month Recipe: Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Little Smokies

Ingredients: - 1 pkg. (16 oz.) of little smokies - 1 pkg. (12 oz.) thick sliced bacon - 2 cups packed brown sugar - 1 stick butter Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 400oF. 2. Cut each bacon slice into 3-4 pieces. 3. Wrap each sausage with a piece of bacon and secure with a toothpick. Place on a 15x10x1- inch baking pan. 4. Melt butter and mix with 1 cup of the brown sugar. Pour over smokies. 5. Sprinkle with remaining 1 cup of brown sugar.  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until bacon i ...

Pork Month Recipe: Baked Pork Chops

Ingredients: - 1/4 cup olive oil - 3 onions, cut in half and sliced - 5 bay leaves - 4 (3/4-inch) center-cut pork loin chops (about 1 1/2 lbs. total) - 1 egg, beaten - 1 cup Italian bread crumbs - 1/4 teaspoon salt - 1/4 teaspoon black pepper Directions: 1. Keith Schoettmer, a pork producer and PigCHAMP customer from Tipton, Indiana has been named the first "America's Pig Farmer of the Year". In its first year, the program seeks to recognize a producer who "who excels at raising pigs using the We Care ethical principles and connects with today’s consumers about how pork is produced."

Donna and Jayne, on the road again!

Donna and Jayne kicked off the busy fall and winter agricultural show season with a trip to Minnesota for the annual Alan D. Leman Swine Conference, hosted by the University of Minnesota September 19-22.
