Name Change:

The program’s name has been changed from PigCHAMP Care 3000 to PigCHAMP Farrow-to-Finish.  The program consists of two modules – PigCHAMP Reproductive and PigCHAMP Grow-Finish.  Depending on how the program is licensed, users will have access to one or both modules.

Setup Changes:

NEW:
Creating a Company (Farms Menu > Create a New Company):  Companies can be used to manage multiple sites or contracts.  By establishing companies within a subscription, individual analysis and comparisons can be done. Multiple companies can exist under one subscription.

NEW:  Targets & Other Settings > Data Entry Settings > Tattoos:  Users can now determine whether tattoos entered into the database must be unique for the farm, as well as determine the mandatory length of the tattoo identity.  By default, duplicate tattoos are allowed and maximum length is 15 characters.

UPDATED:  User Account Administration (Users Menu > User Account Administration > Database Tab):  The System Administrator (SYSADMIN Account) must decide whether to let other user accounts backup and/or restore the database.  By default, all users will be allowed to backup, but not restore.

UPDATED:  Backup and Restore Utility:  Users must now log into the Backup and Restore Utility using the same username and password used to log into the PigCHAMP program.  The System Administrator must first grant the user permission to backup and/or restore the database through the User Account Administration settings within the PigCHAMP program (Users Menu > User Account Administration > Database Tab).  By default, all users will be allowed to backup the database, but not restore it.

UPDATED:  User Preferences (Settings Menu > User Preferences):  This section of the program has been changed.  Changes include the following:
  • NEW: Data Entry Settings > Fosterings:  The user can select which way they want to enter fosterings into the program.

  • NEW: Report Settings-- Report Headers:  Users can select how to display headers on reports.

  • NEW: Report Settings-- Print Pages Warning:  Users can have the program prompt them if they try to print a report “x” pages in length or more.

  • Report Settings > Period Offsets:
    • UPDATED: Farrowing Rate Period Offset:  You can specify the desired number of days for which the farrowing rate calculation is offset.  By default, this is set for 174 days.

    • NEW: Pigs per Year Period Offset:  In order to calculate pigs per sow per year or pigs per female per year, the period used to determine pig days can be offset by a certain number of days.  By default, this is set to 0 days.

  • Report Settings > List Reports:
    • NEW:  Report Headings:  Report headings can be limited to the first page of list type reports (individual sow id reports like action lists).

    • NEW:  Sorting:  The user now has the option to sort the report from “top to bottom” or “left to right”.  By default, the reports will be sorted left to right.

  • NEW: Report Settings > Default Groupings:  Many analysis reports allow the user to define groupings for cycle/parity, lactation length, age at first service, wean to first service, and arrival to first service.  The user can establish these groupings through the Default Grouping section and the groupings will automatically apply to the report property screen.

  • UPDATED:  Other Settings > Date Formats:  The user can further define the date format by selecting to use the fast entry mode.  If a standard date format is used, the fast entry mode will retain the two-digit year and only the month and day will need to be changed.  If the thousand-day format is used, the fast entry mode will retain the two-digit year and only the three-digit date will need to be changed.  If the windows short date format is used, the fast key option is not available.

  • NEW:  Other Settings > Units of measure and Currency:  This setting determines how measurements are displayed on reports.  It does NOT alter data entry/setup settings.

  • UPDATED:  Other Settings > Farm Identification:  There are now only TWO options for how to display farm identification information on reports.  Options include Both the farm name and code or only the farm name.  Only the farm code is no longer available.
UPDATED:  Lookup Item Management (Settings Menu > Lookup Item Management):  This section of the program has changed drastically.  Changes include:

  • UPDATED: Screen Layout:  The layout has been streamlined.  There are now categories and sub-categories.

  • NEW: Deleting Variables from a Category:  You can now easily delete all un-used variables from a category or sub-category at one time (however, you can still delete each one individually like in previous releases of Care 3000).  To delete all un-used variables from a category or sub-category at once, simply click on the category or sub-category name, then click on the delete icon (X) in the top left hand corner of the LIM screen.

  • NEW: Disable Variables:  The Disable function is used to “hide” an item within a category or sub-category.  Disabling the item will remove it from any dropdown menus in data entry, but keep it in the database for future use or reference.  Pre-defined and user-defined items can be disabled.  This feature is most often used to simplify data entry and clean up the dictionary.  To disable a variable, highlight it in the LIM tree and check the box in front of Disable on the Items Detail Panel.

  • NEW: Merge Rules:  When you carry out a merging task, you now have the option to save the rule so that it can be applied again later (e.g. after importing other pcf files that may contain the old definitions.) Merge rules can also be exported to an xlm file and passed onto other PigCHAMP users.  You can export lookup item merge rules from one computer and import them through the File Menu > Export File/Import File > Lookup Item Merge Rules
UPDATED:  Search for Pigs (Farms Menu > Search and Edit or click on the binoculars icon in the setup toolbar or any data entry screen):  A few new options have been added to the Search for Pigs tool.  These include:
  • NEW:  Service Group Tab:  This option generates a list of all animals that are of the desired user-defined service group

  • NEW:  Audit Date Tab:  This option creates a list of all events recorded in the database for the date they were entered into the program, or the date they were edited in or deleted from the program.  This list can be filtered for specific user accounts.

  • UPDATED:  Event Tab:  Added option to search by Weanings (Own Litters).  Weanings (Own Litters) is the very first weaning event in each reproductive cycle, regardless of how many pigs are weaned.
Data Entry Changes

UPDATED:
Data Item Management:  Items Category Dropdown List:  This option allows for each farm or group of farms to have individualized data entry fields that pertain to a specific farm.  To create a new Items Category, verify that the field is blank first, and then type the desired new category name into the field. To apply data entry fields to a particular category, select and position the desired data entry variables the farm requires in the Items Selected box.  Be sure to click Ok when finished. In simple terms, The Data Item Management Items Category Dropdown.

NEW:  Data Entry Events:  There are four new data entry events, including:
  • Receive Shipment of Retained Gilts (Arrivals category):  This event is used to receive replacement gilts from a grow-finish farm and place into the reproductive herd. The shipment must first be created through the Transfer Retained Gilts event on the Grow-Finish side of the PigCHAMP program.  Once created, the pigs can be received via the transfer within the Farrow to Finish database or via an electronic file export/import process.  Please refer to the updated user manual or help files for more information.

  • Batch Matings (Matings category):  The batch mating event is used to record information regarding natural mating or artificial insemination to a group of sows.  The group of sows must have been bred on the same date and with the same boar or semen batch identity.  Please refer to the updated user manual or help files for more information.

  • Batch Pregnancy Check Results (Mating category):  The batch pregnancy check is used to record the result of a pregnancy diagnosis on a group of sows.  The group of sows must have all been checked on the same day and have the same result.  Please refer to the updated user manual or help files for more information.

  • Weaning Shipments (Farrowing category):  The weaning shipment event allows the user to create a shipment of weaned pigs to be imported into the Grow Finish side of the program.  Please refer to the updated user manual or help files for more information.
UPDATED:  Fostering Event:  The user can select which way they want to enter fosterings into the program through Settings Menu > User Preferences > Data Entry Settings > Fostering.  The first option is to enter both a source sow and a destination sow (this is selected by default and is exactly the same as the previous Care 3000 releases).  The second option is to enter it like in DOS, whereas only a single sow identity is prompted for and a plus (+) or minus (-) sign is entered into the number of piglets field along with the number.

UPDATED:  The sow history will now remain on screen after saving a data entry event until the next sow identity is entered, even when jumping from one event to another.

UPDATED:  Recording Piglet Identities in Data Entry Events:  The piglet identity field now contains three parts for Tag, Tattoo, and Sex.

UPDATED:  Sow Weights can be recorded in Mating, Farrowing, and Complete Weaning events.  The fields must be added through Data Item Management.

Reporting Changes

UPDATED:
The Customized Report creation process has been changed considerably.  It has been simplified and additional reporting variables are now available.  Please refer to an updated version of the PigCHAMP User Manual or program help files for specifics.

NEW:  Selecting Lines to Display on Performance Type reports:  On the property screen for reports like the Performance Trend Analysis, you can hold down the shift key and click an unchecked ‘section’ header (for example, total services on PTA or anything that has a subset/indented variable) checkbox and it will check every subset variable associated with it.

NEW:  Reports can be scheduled to run at a certain time each day.  Click on the dropdown arrow next to the “Run Reports” icon in the reporting toolbar.  Select “Scheduling and Print Options” from the pop-up menu.  The Scheduling and Print Options screen will appear.  Check the box in front of “Schedule this Report to Run at…” and select the start time.  Click OK.  The report will be displayed as a scheduled report in the Report Queue and will be processed every day that the PigCHAMP program is open at the specified time.  Please refer to an updated version of the PigCHAMP user manual or help files for more information.

NEW:  Processed reports can be saved in the Report Queue.  These saved reports will remain in the queue until manually deleted by the user, regardless of when the program is closed.  To save a report in the queue, process the report as usual.  Select the report in the queue and click on the Save Report icon (yellow folder) in the Report Queue toolbar.  The report will be moved to the Saved Reports section of the queue.  Please refer to an updated version of the PigCHAMP user manual or help files for more information.

NEW:  Filtering Reports:  All reports come with a default list of filtering variables. This list varies from report to report.  In the past, if a report variable was not available as a filter variable, you would have to customize the report by adding the pre-set variable as a custom variable – only then would it appear as an option to filter the report by.  This process has been changed.  Every report still has a set list of default variables to filter by, but other reporting variables can be easily selected from the filter screen.  Right click on the filter screen.  A pop-up menu will appear.  Click on “Show Hidden Reporting Items”.  The hidden items will now appear in the filter list.

NEW:  Sow ID Drill Down lists can now be printed!  Run a report and drill down as you would normally do.  Click on a sow identity, then click on the “white sheet of paper icon” in the top left hand corner of the drill down screen.  Select Create a Report Listing the Pigs Found option.  A Pig List report will be generated in the report queue.  Please refer to an updated version of the PigCHAMP user manual or help files for more information and additional options.

NEW:  Default Groupings on Reports:  Many analysis reports allow the user to define groupings for cycle/parity, lactation length, age at first service, wean to first service, and arrival to first service.  The user can establish these groupings through the Default Grouping section of User Preferences (Settings Menu > User Preferences > Report Settings > Default Groupings) and the groupings will automatically apply to the report property screen.

NEW:  In previous releases of Care 3000, some reports were automatically grouped a certain way, such as by date due for attention or weaning date.  Users now have the option to alter the default grouping on certain reports.  These reports include Culls & Deaths List, First Litter Performance, Litter Reconciliation, Shipments Received, Shipments Sent, Sows Due for Attention and Sows Due to be Served reports.  To alter the grouping, click on the “Add or Modify Column Headings” icon on the reporting tool bar, then select the desired grouping option from the “Group Items by” dropdown menu. Please refer to an updated version of the PigCHAMP user manual or help files for more information.

UPDATED:  A few calculations on the Cohort Analysis reports have been modified.  The Farrowing Rate calculation offset period and Pigs per Sow offset can be altered through Settings Menu > User Preferences > Report Settings > Period Offsets.  Cohort Analysis Reports have new variables that can be selected in Lines to Display section on the Report Property screen.  Please review the Lines to Display section of the Report Property screen or refer to an updated version of the user manual or help files for more information.

NEW:  Herd Inventory Report is new to the PigCHAMP Reproductive module.  It displays herd inventory information for the Breeding and Grow-Finish herds, if applicable.  Please refer to an updated version of the user manual or help files for more information.

UPDATED:  Lookup Item List can now display disabled variables on the report.  Simply click the “Show Disabled Lookup Items” box on the report property screen.  Please refer to the Lookup Item Management section of an updated user manual or the help files for information on disabling lookup items.

UPDATED:  A few calculations in the Performance Analysis by Group have been modified.  The Farrowing Rate calculation offset period and Pigs per Sow offset can be altered through Settings Menu > User Preferences > Report Settings > Period Offsets.  Performance Analysis by Group can now be grouped by herd category and age at first service.  It also has new variables that can be selected in Lines to Display section on the Report Property screen.  Please review the Lines to Display section of the Report Property screen, refer to an updated version of the user manual, or help files for more information.
